The Tam is our full-on expedition bike. Designed from the ground up to be the best handling, most comfortable, most capable off-road touring bike available. The Tam shares many of the features of our other steel All-Road and Mountain Bikes. We're all about versatility at Shand and the Tam is no exception. Using our tried and tested PolyDrop dropouts means that the Tam can be run as a Rohloff bike, a singlespeed or use a traditional derailleur system (including a touring triple drivetrain). We'd expect most of these to be built with the super-reliable and long-lasting Gates Belt Drive transmissions and our PolyDrop dropouts have a very discreet split in the frame to allow this. Built from Reynolds 631 steel tubing, the Tam will take pretty much anything you can throw at it. And should the unthinkable happen, the frame gets damaged on your trip, you can be rest assured that it can be easily repaired almost anywhere in the world.
Key features include : bigger diamter tubes for stiffness (especially when loaded), lower bottom bracket height for better stability, longer headtube for more upright riding position (without unsightly spacers under the stem), low standover height, 3 bottle cage mounts on frame (including Anything cage mount on downtube). 2 Anything cage mounts on forks, lowrider mounts on forks, rear rack mounts (hourglass style, can be drilled through if damaged), front and rear mudguard mounts. Bushnell EBB shell (will take threaded BSA botoom bracket).
The Tam is TIG welded from custom drawn Reynolds 631 tubing. As with all of our bikes, the frame is manufactured by us in our workshop in Central Scotland where we also paint and complete the final assembly.

Unless otherwise agreed, all complete bikes will be setup with 10mm of spacers under the stem. Stem lengths and seatpost types (layback or inline) are frame size specific to enable maximum amount of adjustability. We can provide a dimensioned drawing of final setup on request.

All our bikes are painted to order from a standard range of 30 colours. Metallic and custom colours are also available for an additional charge – as are custom colours and one-off graphics if you’re looking for something more individual.

We are specialists in the design and build of Rohloff compatible frames. Rohloff are renowned the world over as the leading manufacturer of internal geared hubs. Being fully sealed from the dirt, the Rohloff Speedhub is an exceptionally reliable unit making it ideal for touring, daily commuting or everyday riding where reliability and the promise of extremely low maintenance are key.
The Rohloff Speedhub does away with the need for a front derailleur and has fourteen gears that cover the range of a typical derailleur gear setup. Designed around the Rohloff Speedhub the Tam Rohloff has an Bushnell Eccentric Bottom Bracket to provide an elegant solution for easy belt/chain tensioning.
