The Oykel is a super-versatile, lightweight carbon mountain bike frame, designed to work with a variety of wheel sizes. We're passionate about practical and versatile bikes and the Oykel is no exception, being able to accept 650B+, 29+ and regular 29er wheelsets.
The dual rear axle dropouts means there’s no compromise on chainstay length to get the wheelsize you want. For 650B+ wheels, use the forward position to achieve a chainstay length of 425mm and for 29+ wheels, use the rearward axle position to provide a chainstay length of 440mm.
With big volume tyres and short chainstays, achieving adequate chainring/crank/tyre clearance is a real challenge, so the solution is to move that chainstay out of the way altogether! This is where the benefits of carbon fibre really comes into play. Working with carbon allows material to be moved around in a way that's impossible with steel. The elevated drive-side chainstay moves the frame away from the tyre, chain and chainrings and allows the rear wheel to be tucked in for quick, snappy handling.
In both 29" and 650B (27.5") configurations, the frame and forks will take a 3" wide tyre.
Continuing the theme of versatility, the Oykel is available with a choice of threaded BSA bottom bracket shell or the more modern PF30 shell. If choosing a PF30 shell, it can be fitted with an eccentric bottom bracket to make a single speed setup straightforward. The elevated drive-side chainstay also makes it simple to fit a Gates Carbon Belt Drive transmission. No split in the frame is needed.
Cable routing for both rear brake and rear derailleur are internal and keeping with the modern feel of this bike, there is no provision for a front derailleur. Running a 1X or singlespeed drivetrain reduces weight and adds to the simplicity of the bike. The wide range of gears available with a single ring at the front means the days are numbered for the front derailleur on bikes other than specialist touring bikes.
The rigid carbon forks on the Oykel are suspension corrected meaning a swap between rigid and suspension (100mm-120mm travel) forks doesn’t radically change the bikes handling.
Front and rear wheels are designed round the 'Boost' standard. This is a bolt-thru axle design, 148mm X 12mm at the rear and 110mm X 15mm at the front. We also recommend using a Boost crank to move the chain 3mm outward for additional chain clearance with big tyres.

Unless otherwise agreed, all bikes will be setup with 10mm of spacers under the stem. Stem lengths and seatpost types (layback or inline) are frame size specific to enable maximum amount of adjustability. We can provide a dimensioned drawing of final setup on request.

All our bikes are painted to order from a standard range of 30 colours. Metallic and custom colours are also available for an additional charge – as are custom colours and one-off graphics if you’re looking for something more individual.

We work closely with our Carbon Fibre manufacturing partners in Asia for the production of our carbon frames and the carbon forks on some of our steel models. We do not manufacture carbon products in-house, but all carbon frames and forks undergo final inspection, finishing and painting in our workshop on Scotland. Our manufacturing partner has been producing carbon product to the cycling community since 2006 and are world renowned for their expertise in the composites industry.
