Shand Cycles are looking to add two workshop assistants to our small dynamic team based at our manufacturing HQ in Livingston. The successful candidate(s) will perform number of duties spread across the three main areas of the business; Fabrication, Paint and Assembly.
The new team members will provide assistance to the existing workshop staff working across all disciplines in creating a complete bicycle from raw frame tubes, through paint and final component assembly. This will be a very varied role with a significant amount of potential for learning the many skills involved in making bespoke and production bicycles. These skills will include working with machine tools (milling machines, lathes etc), preparing tubes for welding, welding/brazing, preparing frames for paint, painting and finishing frames, final bicycle assembly (including hydraulic systems, suspension, beltdrive and internal gear hubs).
The ideal candidate will be used to working with their hands and have a basic working knowledge of metal working hand-tools. Bicycle assembly would be highly desirable. Knowledge and experience of paint systems would be advantageous but not expected. Full training will be giving across all areas but a self-starting, enthusiastic, fast learner will be preferred.
These roles would be perfect for those already in the bicycle industry, perhaps as a mechanic, but wishing to move to the next level. Also perfect for someone currently in a manufacturing role but wishing to get into the bicycle industry,
