Paint
& Graphics

In line with our ethos of building bikes suitable for all riding conditions, our paint finish is designed to be durable as well as look beautiful.

Our paint process involves applying two different layers of primer to provide a protective base, then applying colour with two layers of clear lacquer to provide a hard wearing deep gloss (or matte) finish. Our graphics and logos are part of the paint finish and are not decals or stickers. The painted frame is then denibbed to remove any minor imperfections, wet sanded by hand, followed by machine polishing to create the perfect finish. Finally a coating of protective carnauba wax is applied and buffed off before the frame moves to final assembly. The care & attention shows through with the beautiful finish on every frame we produce at Shand.

Colour matched stems

For a special touch we can paint your stem to match your frame for an additional cost of £50. Please note we’d not recommend a painted stem if using the stem for mounting GPS units or feedbags.

Your name or logo graphics

Would you like your name, national flag or favourite graphics on your frame? No problem, just let us know – we would typically provide a mock-up to of the graphic for review, along with an idea of the cost involved. Costs are usually in the region of £50-£150 depending on complexity and number of colours.

Custom paint scheme

Sometimes customers are looking for a very specific colour or have a special paint or graphics scheme in mind. If this is the case we can source a paint colour outside our standard colour range for an additional cost of £60, or design a paint scheme based on a very specific brief or loosest of ideas. Cost for a custom paint scheme is priced at the time, depending on the work and complexity involved. We frequently post photos of customer bikes on our Facebook & Instagram pages and some of our previous custom paint & graphics jobs can be seen here: https://shandcycles.com/the-path-to-custom-paint

What do the colours
actually look like?

Unfortunately it’s difficult to convey exactly our paint colours on a website, but in addition to posting regular customer bike photos on our social media, the swatches and colour picker above, we have some photographic albums of most of our standard colours on Flickr.
