Who we are
Shand is a small independent bicycle manufacturer located in Scotland, historically providing hand-built frames, made to order, one at a time. While we’ll continue to offer custom frames, Shand is expanding in both people and product range. Shand began in 2003 as a one-man operation by Steven Shand, but recent developments have seen Russell Stout coming on board and our offer expanding to include production, stock frames.
Russell has a wealth of experience in bicycles and has the same passion as Steven about bringing back bicycle manufacturing to Scotland. Scotland has a long heritage of bicycle building and both he and Steven look forward to seeing ‘made in Scotland’ once again appearing on high-performance production bicycle frames.
Our stock frames will be built with the same craft, care and attention as our custom frames, but rather than every aspect being customisable, we’ll have frames ready in different sizes for immediate dispatch. Long lead times are inevitable in small custom frame shops, but with our new approach we hope to provide high-performance cycles with character and quality in a more accessible way.
People
Steven ShandHaving run an independent workshop producing one-off bespoke bikes since 2003, Steven plans to bring Shand to a wider audience. With a passion for all things bicycle, he’s been involved in the cycling and outdoor industry for over 20 years, working with some of the biggest brands. Despite this, he’s still passionate about riding and for the cost of a pint of 80/- will tell you about his sponsored debut on the mountain bike race scene way back in 1991.
Russell StoutInevitably falling into mountain biking and road cycling after an addiction to fell and endurance ultra running, Russell has always been involved with riding in one way or another. He even went through a triathlon phase in the mid nineties, but common sense prevailed after realising that he and Neoprene don’t agree. He comes to Shand after 20 years in design and communications and promises from this point forward to look after his cycling kit better and work on maintaining his form.
